{"id":35,"date":"2023-02-05T18:44:31","date_gmt":"2023-02-05T18:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fofig.com\/?p=35"},"modified":"2023-02-05T18:44:31","modified_gmt":"2023-02-05T18:44:31","slug":"easy-greek-pastitsio-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fofig.com\/index.php\/2023\/02\/05\/easy-greek-pastitsio-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Easy Greek Pastitsio Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bechamel Sauce<br \/>\n\u00bd stick butter cut into pieces<br \/>\n5 tablespoon all purpose flour<br \/>\n3 cups milk<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp black pepper<br \/>\n\u00bd cup grated parmesan cheese<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\nMeat sauce<br \/>\n2 tablespoon olive oil<br \/>\n1 red onion chopped<br \/>\n5 cloves garlic minced<br \/>\n2 tablespoon tomato paste<br \/>\n1 lb ground beef<br \/>\n\u00bd lb ground lamb<br \/>\n1 teaspoon dried oregano<br \/>\n\u00bd teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n\u00bd tablespoon salt<br \/>\n\u00bc tsp black pepper<br \/>\n\u00bd cup water<br \/>\n1 can diced tomatoes 15 oz.<br \/>\n2 bay leaves<br \/>\nPasta<br \/>\n1 lb penne pasta or pastitsio pasta No.2<br \/>\n3 tbsp olive oil<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\n\u00be cup grated parmesan cheese<br \/>\n\u00bd cup parsley<\/p>\n<h2>INSTRUCTIONS<\/h2>\n<p>Bechamel sauce<br \/>\nMelt the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat.<br \/>\nAdd in the flour and whisk well. Cook until it doesn\u2019t smell raw.<br \/>\nSlowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly to make sure no lumps form.<br \/>\nlower the heat and add the salt and pepper.<br \/>\nKeep stirring and cooking until the sauce thickens.<br \/>\nTurn the heat off, stir the parmesan into the sauce.<\/p>\n<p>Add in the eggs one by one and stir very well after each addition. Set the bechamel sauce aside.<br \/>\nMeat sauce<br \/>\nHeat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.<br \/>\nSaute onion and garlic until soft and translucent.<br \/>\nAdd in the tomato sauce and mix it with the onion and garlic.<br \/>\nAdd in the ground beef and ground lamb. Brown them in the pan and break them as you cook them.<br \/>\nAdd in oregano, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Stir well and cook for a minute.<br \/>\nAdd in the water, canned tomatoes and add the bay leaves. Keep the heat on medium and cook the meat sauce for about 30 minutes or until the water is almost evaporated.<\/p>\n<p>Taste the sauce to make sure it has enough salt, add more if needed.<br \/>\nRemove the bay leaves and set the sauce aside.<br \/>\nPasta<br \/>\nCook the penne according to the packaging and drain.<br \/>\nOnce the pasta is cool enough to handle, place it in a bowl and mix it with olive oil, eggs, parmesan and parsley to it.<br \/>\nAssemble:<br \/>\nPreheat the oven to 350F and coat a 9X13 baking pan with non stick spray.<br \/>\nTransfer the pasta to the baking pan.
