French Onion Soup Salisbury Steak
Ingredients
For the patties
- 1 lb (about 500 g) ground beef
- 1 large egg
- 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper
For the onion gravy
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 ¾ cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheese (such as Gruyère or Mozzarella)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 oval patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties until browned on both sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the sliced onions. Cook slowly until the onions become soft and caramelized.
- Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute. Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until the gravy thickens.
- Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the onion gravy for about 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the patties, cover the pan, and let the cheese melt.
